THE HIGHLIGHTS OF A ROOK PIERCING

If you are familiar with the ear piercing world, then you’ve probably heard of a rook piercing. The rook is one of the more identifiable and fashionable ear piercings available, but it is also unique and somewhat shrouded in mystery.

WHAT IS A ROOK EAR PIERCING? A rook ear piercing is located in the uppermost ridge of the ear beneath the rim of the ear and above the fossa. It is a cartilage piercing that is becoming more and more popular and is similar to a daith. While not everyone has the anatomy to get a rook, most people can. WHAT IS ITS STANDARD GAUGE?

A 16-gauge needle is used to perform a rook piercing. Typically, a piercer will have you lay on your side and after sanitizing the area, will use a 16-gauge needle to pierce through the cartilage. It goes pretty quick and you will have your rook piercing jewellery in there in no time WILL I SURVIVE THE PAIN?

Needless to say, being “stabbed” by a needle is not very fun. Since the rook is a cartilage piercing, it will be a bit more painful than the traditional lobe piercing.

However, the pain is momentary. During the piercing, there will be some pain, but, after the procedure it will return to normal quickly. HEALING TIME AND AFTERCARE

Since the rook ear piercing goes through a thick layer of cartilage, it can take as many as six months to a year to heal. As with any piercing, you will want to clean it with a piercing aftercare lotion, spray, or saline solution about two to three times a day.

It is important to not twist your rook earrings as it could result in scaring or piercing bumps. You’ll also want to not put a lot of pressure on the earrings whether that be from headphones or evening sleeping on it.

Finally, it is not a good idea to change your rook jewellery until after it is fully healed after the 6 to 12 months. SO will the rook piercing be your next piercing?
